The boys really enjoy bagels and we make our own in the bakery using traditional methods. Our favourite family breakfast is bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese, sometimes with some creamy scrambled egg as well - scattered with capers and thinly sliced red onion. It takes about 5 minutes to throw together and along with some organic Blue Mountain Jamaican coffee is just a perfect island start to the day.
Another brilliant way to eat bagels is the New York way - fried eggs and crispy bacon with oozy cheese on an 'everything' bagel. Breakfast heaven. An indispensable cookery book for us at home - not unsurprisingly - has been Lucinda Scala Quinn's 'Mad Hungry: Strategies for feeding Men & Boys and she has a fabulous recipe for how to make the perfect New York bagel.
